Viks (daniello_s) vs Misaki (Robert)

Deployment: Standard Deployment
Strategy: Collect the Bounty (Gaining Grounds 2015)

Schemes: ALITS, Protect Territory, Make Them Suffer, Distract, Plant Evidence

Robert brought Misaki as an Outcast:

Misaki (2SS pool) - Oathkeeper, Stalking Bisento, Smoke & Shadows

Yamaziko - Oathkeeper
2x Freikorps

2x Torakage
2x Ronin
Void Wretch

I took:
Ash Viki (3SS pool) - Sisters in Fury, Oathkeeper, I Pay Better
Blood Viki - Mark of Shez'uul, Oathkeeper
Malifaux Child
Convict Gunslinger
Hans
Lazarus
Ronin
2x Void Wretch

Rob picked Plant Evidence (revealed) and make Them Suffer.
I picked Protect Territory (revealed) and Plant Evidence (not revealed).

Table we were about to play was looking this way:

We agreed water to be severe terrain but next time I think I'll suggest it to be severe and hazardous.

Turn 1

Misaki and her crew advanced forward and put a serious pressure on my crew. I have positioned my models in effort to counter the assault - Ash, Ronin, Gunslinger and Hans were guarding my left flank where they expected to meet with Yamaziko, 2x Tokarage and Freikorps (Misaki was lurking nearby as well). Blood supported by Lazarus and one Void Wretch were guarding right flank threaten by the Freikorps and Ronin. Second Void Wretch jumped into the building ready to jump into the one on the far side of the river and start dropping scheme markers.
Hans took an opportunity and killed enemy Void Wretch with one shot :D

Upkeep phase - no VP points for either side Score after turn 1: Viks 0 - Misaki 0

Turn 2

Further advance of Misaki's crew - Yamaziko hid behind my building, dropped scheme marker and use Brace. Freikors moved behind dense vegetation and dropped another one. Two Tokarage moved and shoot, then pushrd themselves close to Yamaziko so they were guarded by her aura.
On the right flank Freikorps and Ronin decided they don't want to play with Blood and Lazarus and were hiding.

I took an opportunity and attacked Tokarage with my buffed Ash (burning Oatkeeper in process). Girl got 4 damage for charging them but killed two Tokarages and hurt Yamaziko.

Void Wretch jumped between buildings and survived Misaki's assault. How? Don't ask me. I was puzzled by that. Well, maybe less puzzled than Rob :D

Upkeep phase after Turn 2 - Viks +1VP point for strategy; Score after turn 2: Viks 1 - Misaki 0

Turn 3
I won initiative and Ash finished Yamaziko and then charged Freikorps killing him as well.
Then Misaki started her onlsaught. She charged Ash killing her and then charged Guslinger decapitating her as well... That was rough... Ronin tried to Flurry Misaki without any success...

I knew left flank was gone so Hans and Child run away from Misaki. Blood started to chase Ronin and Freikorps on the right flank. Lazarus and Void Wretch dropped scheme markers for Protect Territory. Second Void Wretch dropped marker as well.

Upkeep phase after Turn 3 - Misaki +1VP point for strategy; Score after turn 3: Viks 1 - Misaki 1

Turn 4

Misaki killed Ronin. Blood charged Freikorps and killed him and nearby Ronin. Misaki's Ronin killed my Void Wretch.

Upkeep phase after Turn 4 - Misaki +1VP for Make Them Suffer; Score after turn 4: Viks 1 - Misaki 2

Turn 5

Misaki's Ronin removed my scheme marker and Blood dropped another one.
Game has ended that turn.

Upkeep phase after Turn 5 - Viks +3VP for Protect Territory, +1VP for Plant Evidence; Misaki +3VP for Plant Evidence

Final  Score: Viks 5 - Misaki 5

It was really bloody game and after this bloodshed I officially recognize Misaki as a honourable Sister :D

Round 3 reports will follow shortly.

  1. Wow, that was a brutal game. Just the way I like to play, in fact. It looked fun.

The board seemed very sparse for Malifaux. Since you were both playing fairly melee-focussed crews it probably didn't matter much, but some Masters or crews would have been able to do crazy damage with so little terrain.

  2. Some tables were more heavy in terrain/LOS blockers than the others. This one had a river in the middle (Severe Terrain) with 3 bridges so it wasn't bad after all. I had a bit of shooting in my crew but still my opponent could grab cover.
Either way it was surely, as you said - a brutal game. Well, what else can we expect when Viks meet Misaki? :D
