Game report 29.07.16 50SS Leveticus vs Seamus

Game report - 29.07.2016

50SS Leveticus (daniello_s) vs Puppet Seamus (Owen)

Deployment: Standard Deployment
Strategy: Interference
Schemes: Convict Labour, Leave Your Mark, Take Prisoner, Set Up, A Quick Murder

Owen brought:
Seamus (7SS pool) - Red Chapel Killer, Bag O'Tools, Unnerving Aura
The Hanged
Rotten Belle
Punk Zombie
Nurse
Necropunk
3x Canine Remains

I took:
Levi (4SS pool) - Oathkeeper
(killing machine and Abomination summoner with the melee attack only)
Hodgepodge Emissary - Conflux of Aetheral
(model which allows to use four horsemen list)
Dead Rider
(heavy beat-stick; Waif anchor)
Pale Rider
(scheme runner; Waif anchor)
Mechanical Rider
(summoner and scheme runner)
2x Hollow Waif
(Levi's life insurance)

Owen picked Leave Your Mark and A Quick Murder
I took Set Up (Seamus) and Take Prisoner (Seamus)

My first game with Rider list and I used Pale and Dead Riders for the first time also.
I was expecting Seamus to either trying to hunt down Waifs or focus on Mech Rider as she is the summoning tool in my list. I had to be also careful about Hanged as his Whispers From Beyond could hurt my Riders severely. Thankfully Hanged was the most expensive model in Seamus' crew and Owen was expecting me to take A Quick Murder on this model, so he wasn't to eager to get closer with Hanged especially when Levi was lurking around.

Deployment (Levi was deploying first, his crew at the bottom of the photo):

I decided to summon Hooded Rider on turn 1 and play rather defensively on turn 1 and 2. Then starting with turn 3 I had a plan to play more aggressively as Riders would benefit from their damage reduction and had easier access to their (0) actions (would require to flip 6+ of any suit).

Turn 1
Initiative: Seamus

Key actions/moments:

- Hodgepodge Emissary gave Regeneration trinket to Dead Rider (I should give it to Mech Rider really), then pushed with (0) action and summoned Hooded Rider on the right flank. Seeing this huge, angry model two Canine Remains, Nurse and Punk Zombie felt a bit uneasy and didn't advance to far.
- I relocated Mech Rider from left flank to centre staying as far as possible from Seamus and Hanged. Pale Rider stayed on the right flank but closer to the centre (not as wide as Hooded one) and Dead Rider moved closer to Mech Rider. Levi couldn't have a shot to anything so he triple walked.
- Owen pushed on his right flank with Necropunk, Seamus, Canine Remains and Hanged who stayed slightly behind others. Belle moved towards centre.

Upkeep phase:
No VPs scored by either side.

Score after turn 1: Levi 0 - Seamus 0

Turn 2
Initiative: Levi

Key actions/moments:

- Levi tried to remove Necropunks but combination of really low flips, less than moderate hand and Owen's cheating flips resulted with Levi hitting only once for 3 damage. This allowed Necropunk to leap, walk and drop scheme marker for Leave Your Mark.
- The worse thing was that I had no 6+ Tome this turn (even after burning soulstone for more cards at the start of the turn so Mech Rider took a wild attempt to summon Steam Arachnid - of course it was unsuccessful.
- Nurse, Canine Remains and Punk Zombie really didn't want to face Hooded and Pale Riders and they backed off to secure their table quarter. Hooded Rider moved closer to the centre of the table but not to close to claim my right table quarter.
- Seamus used corpse marker who was dug out by nearby Canine Remains to jump close to Mech Rider and charged her. He bruised her heavily dropping her to 4 wounds remaining.
- After that I decided to put some pressure on Seamus and charged him with Dead Rider beating him and forcing Owen to burn stones for damage prevention. Also as we burnt our hands already he had to use stones also to get positive flip after I declared Horror Duels against Seamus after hits from Dead Rider. Also I moved Pale Rider close by to drop scheme markers near Seamus next turn.
- At the end of the turn Levi respawn near Seamus and Necropunk which alerted Owen that I might do bad things to Seamus on turn 3 ;)

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Interference
Seamus: +1VP Interference; +1VP Leave Your Mark

Score after turn 2: Levi 1 - Seamus 2

Turn 3
Initiative: Levi

Key actions/moments:

- I hit Seamus with Mech Rider with trigger to drop 2 scheme markers near him. Then I pushed Mech Rider away from Seamus and summon Arachnid and walked away even further.
- Seamus was tar pitted by Dead Rider so he couldn't shoot at Mech Rider. In this case Owen tried to 'lure' me to kill Necropunk who leaped and dropped scheme marker near Seamus (he needed corpse marker for Seamus to use Back Alley). Levi decided to charge Necropunk instead of shooting him and killed enemy with trigger to summon Abomination so no corpse marker was left after killing Necropunk.
- Seamus was a bit frustrated by this and walked once and attacked Dead Rider but at this stage at least 2 damage per hit was reduced thanks to Riders ability.
- Canine Remains tried to tarpit Pale Rider but he killed the beast with one attack, then pushed, dropped third scheme marker near Seamus and shot at Belle hurting her.
- Hanged and rest of Seamus' crew was really terrified seeing those Riders getting stronger an bolder every turn and decided not to interfere too much in the events on the table hiding whenever they could ;)
- Hooded Rider walked twice towards Dead Rider, then pushed and placed Dead Rider in base contact with him which allowed Dear Rider to charge and kill Belle.
- Situation looked bleak for the Ressers...

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Interference; +3VP Set Up
Seamus: +1VP Interference

Score after turn 3: Levi 5 - Seamus 3

Turn 4
Initiative: Levi

Key actions/moments:

- Hooded Rider charged Seamus but failed to hit him... I know, almost impossible... I wanted to use his trigger to remove nearby corpse marker so Seamus wouldn't be able to use it for Back Alley. Of course I could also charge and stand on the top of the marker but I decided this wouldn't be to nice to Owen so I couldn't do it to him :)
- Seamus used Back Alley and teleported across the wood to shoot Mech Rider but missed (I used Red Joker to deflect the hit).
- Pale Rider tar pitted Seamus hitting him and dropping him to last wound.
- Hooded Rider and Levi prepared for onslaught next turn ready to shoot/charge enemy models hiding along the far side of the table.
- Mech Rider summoned another Arachnid and run away again from Seamus.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Interference;
Seamus: +1VP Interference

Score after turn 4: Levi 6 - Seamus 4

Turn 5
Initiative: Seamus

Key actions/moments:

- Seamus hit Pale Rider and took defensive stance. Also many other of his crew did take Defensive Stance this turn. Owen told me his control hand was terrible and this was the most sensible thing to do at this moment.
- Levi burnt Oathkeeper, walked twice and charged Nurse killing her (and summoned second Abomination).
- Dead Rider charged Canine with push trigger to get close to second Canine, swung second time killing the model and then used (0) action to attack second dog paralyzing it (Wp15 Horror Duel).
- Mech Rider reactivated Hooded Rider who charged Punk Zombie tearing it to pieces.
- Game ended this turn so I declared Take Prisoner on Seamus who was guarded by Pale Rider and Arachnid.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Interference; +3VP Take Prisoner

Final score: Levi 10 - Seamus 4

Few comments after the game:

We both agreed that Owen played too defensively. If he pressed a bit more with Hanged it could be different game.

As for Riders:

- Their basing mobility is great and backed by tricks like pushes and towing friendly model their mobility becomes awesome.

- Mech Rider - awesome support/summoning piece. Trick with dropping scheme markers near the target is really good.
- Pale Rider - really good scheme runner with nice punch. Push and drop scheme marker allows to drop two scheme markers a turn. Nice.
- Dead Rider - scary, scary beat stick. And his trigger to make Horror Duel on the target is beautiful.
- Hooded Rider - mobility of this guy is great and his damage output on turn 3 (min 4 damage) is almost insane.

Generally I really, really like this crew. Of course I wouldn't normally consider it a tournament crew but it brings so much fun to the table I will use it for my next tournament ;)

Till next time!

They Gather...

'And so they gathered together at the voice of his Master. He called upon them to ride with him into the battle. To spread death, misery and gnashing of his enemies teeth. Because he is the ultimate source of destruction even though he was hit by the latest errata...'
Book of Levi ;))

I was finally able to finish my last Rider and I'm (more-or-less) ready to run Levi with his four fun loving Rider friends. Still I need to get Hodgepodge Emissary (bought but still waiting for model to arrive to my door step) and some Metal Gamins for Mech Rider to summon. I have already Arachnid Spiders ready for this purpose, but wouldn't mind to get at least 2 Metal Gamins just in case if I meet Construct heavy opponents.

So allow me to introduce you the latest member of Levi's crew - Dead Rider.

As four Riders are ready I couldn't help myself but to take a family snap shot.

And here are few close ups on Riders only. Levi apparently went somewhere. Probably he was afraid that Rusty will 'accidentally' hurt one of his precious Waifs again while he was busy posing to this photo...

Till next time!

Game report 21.07.16 50SS Leveticus vs Hoffman

Game report - 21.07.2016

50SS Leveticus (daniello_s) vs Hoffman (Gavin)

Deployment: Flank Deployment
Strategy: Extraction
Schemes: Convict Labour, Show of Force, Leave Your Mark, Covert Breakthrough, A Quick Murder

Gavin brought:
Hoffman (3SS pool) - Field Mechanic, On Site Assimilation, Remote Mines
Mechanical Attendant
Peacekeeper
Guardian
2x Hunter
Pistolero De Latigo
Watcher

I took:
Leveticus (5SS pool) - Pariah of Iron, To The Earth Return
(ex-ultimate killing machine)
Joss - Oathkeeper
(tanky model; Waif anchor)
Ryle
(second tanky model in the list; Waif anchor)
Hooded Rider
(flanker and heavy hitter; Waif anchor)
Flesh Construct
(backup scheme-runner; Waif anchor)
Necropunk
(scheme runner)
2x Hollow Waif
(Levi's life insurance)

Gavin picked: Leave Your Mark and Covert Breakthrough
I took: Leave Your Mark and A Quick Murder (Peacekeeper)

Game strategy:
- Secure Extraction with Joss and Ryle spending soulstones for damage prevention if necessary. Flesh Construct to support Henchmen if necessary.
- Hooded Rider to flank and kill enemy scheme runner(s) and later in the game to secure Extraction points if needed.
- Necropunk to run Leave Your Mark scheme, supported by Flesh Construct if necessary.
- Levi.... hmmm... to kill as much as possible?.. ;)

This game was a baptize of fire for Hooded Rider. Also it was second game I used Ryle. I was really eager to see their performance.
Also it was third time Gavin played Hoffman.

Deployment flip won Hoffman and forced Levi t deploy first.

Turn 1
Initiative: Hoffman

Key moments/actions:

- General note: my control hand was crap (highest single 10, single 7 and rest 5 and below including Black Joker)
- Hoffman granted Watcher Hydraulics modification (Nimble) and Peacekeeper with Targeting Systems modification (auto-Rams during one activation for all MI and Sh actions). He also looped some of his models. Then Watcher used his Sky-Eye action on my Waif and walked 2 times dragging with him Hoffman behind the building.
- One of the Hunters dragged my 'exposed' Waif into open and tore her to pieces... Nice start of the game... Rest of his crew pushed towards middle except Guardian who tried to flank me.
- I moved Joss and Ryle behind the low wall (hard cover). Hooded Rider moved closer to Hoffman and Watcher but stayed out of LOS. As Gavin used all his control hand Flesh Construct did benefit from Reactivate and run all the way along the flank to do get Leave Your Mark next turn. Necropunk re positioned himself to the centre of the table (behind LOS blocking woods) to avoid Hoffman, Watcher and Guardian. Levi focused and shot at Peacekeeper in the hard cover but flipped weak damage on single negative flip. If he flipped moderate/severe I could declare To The Earth Return trigger. Then he shot twice at Hunter who killed Waif and reduced him to 2 wounds left,

Upkeep phase:
No VPs scored by either side.

Score after turn 1: Levi 0 - Hoffman 0

Turn 2
Initiative: Levi

Key moments/actions:

- Control hand this turn was good. I had Red Joker, 12 and few moderate cards (9 and lower).
- Levi finished off Hunter and hurt Peacekeeper, not as much as I hoped to but he gave him Slow.
- Gavin put enormous pressure on another Waif so I had to use my high cards to save her.
- Ryle charged Hunter but my flips were terrible and Gavin flipped/cheated higher than me so Ryle missed everything. Then Guardian charged Ryle and hurt him slightly. Joss couldn't stand this beating of his buddy so he burnt Oathkeeper, moved and charged Guardian but hit only once. Seeing this things Hooded Rider rolled over his eyes in disbelief and killed Guardian with a single swing of his sword during the charge.
- Watcher dragged Hoffman along the back of the table so I decided to tarpit Hoffman with Necropunk and I charged nearby Watcher (1 damage inflicted). I knew this was a suicidal mission but I suspected Gavin trying to drop so scheme markers and at least it would delay him with this task. As predicted Necropunk died of Hoffman torch but it Hoffman's took two actions to kill him and third action he spent at the start of his activation to borrow Necropunks leap but failed.
- Flesh Construct got Reactivate this turn again so he easily dropped scheme marker for Leave Your Mark.
- We both score Extraction by having 3 models each within the marker.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Extraction, +1VP Leave Your Mark
Hoffman: +1VP Extraction

Score after turn 2: Levi 2 - Hoffman 1

Turn 3
Initiative: Hoffman

Key moments/actions:

- Control hand was terrible again despite using stone for cards...
- Rider pushed and killed Watcher tar-pitting Hoffman.
- Levi killed Pistolero and crippled heavily Hunter who was later finished off by Joss.
- Peacekeeper tried to shoot Levi but missed.
- Ryle walked, pushed closer to Peacekeeper but missed.
- Hoffman couldn't disengage from Rider so he walked once and hit him (1 damage thanks to damage reduction on Rider).
- Flesh Construct secured another point for Leave Your Mark.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Extraction, +1VP Leave Your Mark

Score after turn 3: Levi 4 - Hoffman 1

Turn 4
Initiative: Hoffman

Key moments/actions:

- Please don't mention my control hand...
- Peacekeeper flurried, hit Ryle with Ram and flipped Red Joker on damage... Ryle was gone...
- Levi killed Attendant and hit Peacekeeper for 2 damage. Joss charged Peacekeeper but hit only once dropping him to last wound.
- Rider couldn't hit Hoffman and Hoffman couldn't disengage again and hit Rider once.
- Flesh Construct secured final point for Leave Your Mark.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Extraction, +1VP Leave Your Mark

Score after turn 4: Levi 6 - Hoffman 1

Turn 5
Initiative: Hoffman

Key moments/actions:

- Have I asked you not to mention my hand before... ;)
- Peacekeeper flurried at Joss. Then I witnessed deja vu as he did exactly same thing like with Ryle - first hit went through and flipped Red Joker on damage. Second hit finished Joss...
- Levi finally killed Peacekeeper.
- Flesh Construct walked towards the Extraction marker.
- Rider and Hoffman traded some blows but with moderate effect.
- Game ended this turn.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Extraction, +2VP A Quick Murder

Final score: Levi 9 - Hoffman 1

Few comments after the game:
- Focus+attack on Levi is a must now. I think I only flipped moderate damage once during this game and the rest thanks to negative flips were weak damages. And if you plan to use To The Earth Return be ready to use Focus+Focus+attack if something is in heavy cover.
- Hooded Rider... I love this guy already. Mobility and damage output is awesome. And I even didn't use his marker removal trigger yet! Awesome model.
- Ryle - thanks to my miserable cards and flips during the game he couldn't do much but I feel the power in this model.

And now the best stuff - my hand on turn 5 before I spent last stone for cards (I drew 4 and 5...):

Sweet wasn't it?

Till next time!

Levi wants new toys! - part 3

Again I hit this time when there is less gaming for me and more painting time instead. At least I can spend it on preparing some new, shiny stuff for Levi.

As the Hodgepodge Effigy release date is getting closer I decided to concentrate on finishing my Riders so Levi could 'ride' with them into the battle soon (thanks to Emissary's Aetheral Conflux upgrade).

My Mech Rider was finished some time ago. Recently I have painted Pale and Hooded Riders and I hope Dead Rider to be finished early next week. Once I have all four Riders finished I'll take quick 'family' snap shot but in the meantime I can show them here and now ;) I can truly admit I'm in love with those models - they look awesome (sculpts, not my painting ;)).

Of course I wouldn't be myself if I didn't try to paint also some other models in the meantime. My pick was two Crooligans as I needed some scheme runner alternatives to Necropunks.

Next in the queue (after Dead Rider of course) will be Bishop and Hans. And then Emissary (once I get him at the end of July/start of August) and Metal Gamins. After that - I don't know :)

Anyway, here is some of my recent works and I hope you'll see reports with them in action pretty soon.

Till next time!

Game report 10.07.16 50SS Leveticus vs Misaki

Game report - 10.07.2016

50SS Leveticus (daniello_s) vs Misaki (Stephen)

Deployment: Flank Deployment
Strategy: Guard The Stash
Schemes: Convict Labour, Hunting Party, Show of Force, Catch and Release, Search the Ruins

Stephen brought:
Misaki (3SS pool) - Oathkeeper, Cut Purse, Stalking Bisento
Shang
Taelor - I Pay Better, Tally Sheet
Johan - Oathkeeper
Lazarus - Oathkeeper
Freikorps Librarian - Scout the Field
Void Wretch

I took:
Levi (4SS pool) - Pariah of Bone, To Earth Return
(recently trimmed killing machine ;))
Rusty
(highly mobile shooter and beat-stick;  Waif anchor)
Madame Sybelle
(Belle supporter; Waif anchor)
Johana - Oathkeeper
(beat-stick; Waif anchor)
Dead Doxy
(moving shenanigans support, Waif anchor)
2x Rotten Belle
(lure, lure and scheme runner)
Hodgepodge Effigy
(soul stones re-charger; scheme runner)
2x Hollow Waif
(Levi's life insurance)

Stephen picked: Hunting Party and Show of Force.
I went for: Hunting Party and Search the Ruins

Idea for the game was simple: lure a model (or two) into the open area and shoot it/beat it to death with Levi, Rusty and Johana who would benefit from Doxy's push. Sybelle would help position Belles and be as a backup beat-stick. Simple enough, right ;)

Fore more this was my first game with 'new' Levi who was trimmed significantly with the latest errata so I was really keen to see him in action.

Deployment (Levi was deploying first on the right hand side of the photos):

Turn 1
Initiative: Levi

Key moments/actions:

- Stephen being out-numbered and seeing two Belles waiting to lure his models close to me was played very defensively this turn. There was loads of single walks and defensive stances on his side. He stretched Johan on his left flanks and I seized opportunity to Call Belle with Sybelle and lure Johan twice to me. Then I pushed Rusty with Doxy so Rusty got a Rapid Fire on Johan killing him. Levi double walked and fired at Lazarus hurting him.

Upkeep phase:
No VPs scored by either side.

Score after turn 1: Levi 0 - Misaki 0

Turn 2
Initiative: Levi

Key moments/actions:

- After loosing Johan on the first turn Stephen played against rather defensively and kept Taelor and Librarian on the back. Lazarus was able to walk once and shot at Dead Doxy - with double negative flip on damage he flipped Red Joker...Oh well... ;) This way he score VP for Hunting Party this turn. He also pushed Misaki and Void Wretch closer to centre of the table.
- I tried to lure Shang but Stephen had incredibly good hand - loads of 12s and 13s and my hand was rather crap this turn. Then i decided to go after Lazarus but Levi and Rusty couldn't do much (have I mentioned Stephen's nice hand already?) so Sybelle had to double walk to tarpit Lazarus and disallow him to utilize his shooting skills next turn. I also secured VP for strategy and started to drop scheme markers for Search the Ruins.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Guard the Stash
Misaki: +1VP Hunting Party

Score after turn 2: Levi 1 - Misaki 1

Turn 3
Initiative: Misaki

Key moments/actions:

- Misaki killed Hodgepodge Effigy (who was able to drop scheme marker before his death) and decided to go after Sybelle. Stephen burnt two soulstones for Assassinate trigger but I used my high cards to bounce it off.
- Then I decided it is time for revenge - Sybelle hit Misaki once. After that I lured Misaki closer to Levi and Shang closer to Levi and Rusty. Then Levi shot Misaki once and used To Earth Return trigger to drop her to 5 wounds left (BTW she was with no SS left in pool at this moment). Second shot went through and I flipped Red Joker on damage with double negative twist. Misaki was dead. As a final AP Levi burnt SS to get positive attack flip and shot Shang leaving him on last wound. To finish him off Rusty focus and killed this Peon.
- Stephen pushed Void Wretch closer to second Stash Marker where I had Johana already and Taelor closer to centre of the table to score Show of Force.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Guard the Stash, +1VP Hunting Party
Misaki: +1VP Guard the Stash, +1VP Show of Force

Score after turn 3: Levi 3 - Misaki 3

Turn 4
Initiative: Levi

Key moments/actions:

- Rusty killed Lazarus who was already being beaten by Sybelle and Belle.
- Johana whacked Taelor leaving her on last wound. Taelor tried to walk and kill Waif but missed. Levi shot at Void Wretch in cover and hit once dropping it to last wound. Wretch tried to hit Waif but missed and I cheated Tome for Unmade trigger which killed Wretch ;)
- Librarian tried to shoot at Waif with Focus +2 but missed. I dropped first marker on Stephen's side for Search the Ruins.
- At this stage Stephen decided to concede the game.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Guard the Stash, +1VP Hunting Party;
Misaki: +1VP Guard the Stash, +1VP Show of Force

Score after turn 4: Levi 5 - Misaki 3

Turn 5
Initiative: Levi

We played quickly 5 turn for fun - I got initiative and Levi killed Taelor and Librarian wouldn't hurt Belle. I dropped another scheme marker.

Upkeep phase:
Levi: +1VP Guard the Stash, +1VP Hunting Party; +3VP Search the Ruins

Final score: Levi 10 - Misaki 3

Few comments after the game:

- Levi is still strong in killing stuff but shooting into the cover is now a big gamble. Looks like Focus+Attack is going to be his bread and butter from now on. Also it looks that he will have to focus on finishing already wounded models and go after Master/Hencheman only when they are severely crippled (about 4, max 5 wounds left)
- I like Sybelle. With two Belles and Doxy she can be really annoying for opponent. And Dead Doxy is one of mine favorite support models in the game.
- Rusty is excellent when combined with Belles/Doxy - her amazing shooting skills are scary when applied on the model outside the cover.

Till next time!
