Game Report 15.10.15 50SS Leveticus vs Kirai

Game report - 15.10.2015

50SS Leveticus (daniello_s) vs Kirai (Mike)

Deployment: Standard Deployment

Strategy: Squatter's Rights
Schemes: ALITS, Breakthrough, Bodyguard, Deliver a Message, Murder Protege

Mike brought:
Kirai
(6SS pool) - Unforgiven, Spirit Beacon

Lost Love
Datsue Ba - Spirit Whispers
Bete Noire - Decaying Aura
2x Rotten Belle
Nurse
Chiaki the Niece

I took:
Leveticus (4SS pool) - Desolate Soul, Pariah of Bone
2x Hollow Waif
Rusty Alyce
Freikorps Trapper
Freikorps Librarian
Johana - Oathkeeper
2x Rotten Belle
Necropunk

Mike picked: Breakthrough and Murder Protege (Rusty) - both revealed.
I took: ALITS (revealed) and Bodyguard (Librarian)

Mike asked me if I can bring Levi as he wanted to practise before UK GT where he expects to meet loads of Levis :D
I decided to use the opportunity to play (for the first time) Levi with Pariah of Bone.
Because Mike is absolutely brilliant in running Kirai, I knew that despite of nastiness of my crew the game will not be a stroll in the park. However I didn't expect to be such a disaster... :D

Table and deployment:

One comments here- I have deployed poorly if not absolutely stupid. I should keep Levi and Belle in the middle of the table, Rusty, Trapper and Belle on right flank and Johana, Librarian and Necropunk on right flank. Instead I put Rusty with Belle in the middle and rest on the right flank. Why? I dunno but it did loose the whole game I think.

Turn 1
I setup first shot kill on Lost Love even at the cost of Trapper. I was hoping to do that (I men kill the Lost Love) and even in case of loosing Trapper, nearby Levi was ready to kill Ikiryo and summon Abomination.
Unfortunately Mike won initiative and blocked LOS to Lost Love with Nurse.
Datsue Ba used their tricks and summoned 2 Sheishins and then The Hanged and Shikome.
My attempts to lure Datsue Ba were countered by the lures of opponents Belles.
At  the bottom of the turn I did a big mistake - Levi walked, focused (plus channelled) and shot at Datsue killing her (no damage prevention trigger). That made Ikiryo pop out (and Bete). It was mistake as the Ikiryo positioned her to be in range of Johana who she attacked twice.
First attack bounced off but second went through on negative flip but with Red Joker for damage. Johana was left on last wound...
Bete claimed one of the Squatter's marker.

Upkeep phase - No VP score by either side;
Score after turn 1: Levi 0 - Kirai 0

Turn 2

I won initiative so Levi went fist. His task was - kill The Hanged in one shot (guy was on 3 wounds left after summoning) and the charge Ikiryo and safe Johana (and possible summon the Abomination).
So he shot Hanged - went through on negative flip (13 cheated for defence) - still doable - two cards flipped for damage - Black Joker!... Shite...
So I went again on The Hanged - same situation (another high card cheated for defence) - double negative - 2 damage... Third hit killed the guy.
Ikiryo swung twice at Johana but she mysteriously avoided both hits!
Librarian healed Johana twice (3 damage healed).
Kirai was lured once by her Belle.
Then I made a mistake - I forgot that Kirai doesn't randomize when shooting into engagements and I didn't hide Johana into hard cover (still I would be in melee range with Ikiryo but at least that would give me some cover. Trapper shot at Kirai wounding her (2 damage).
Kirai used this opportunity to summon Sheishin, moved and shot twice at Johana killing her and summoning in her place a Gaki.
I this moment I knew I was in trouble but despite that I made another mistake - Necropunk should leap and flip one of the Squatter's markers for me, even if that would mean being in Bete's charge range.
I didn't do that and Mike blocked this marker denying me VP for strategy. Game was effectively lost by now... :D
I dropped a scheme marker for ALITS and Shikome claimed another strategy marker for Kirai.
Bete tar pit Necropunk and Trapper.

I run with Alyce around the building to be away from enemy models.

Upkeep phase - Kirai: +1VP Strategy;
Score after turn 2: Levi 0 - Kirai 1

Turn 3

I lost initiative flip but re-took it with use of the soulstone.
And of course I made another mistake - instead of using Levi and shoot at Kirai 3 times I have activated Trapper, push him ot of combat, shot Kirai (2 damage), reposition and drop another scheme marker for ALITS.
Then Nurse tried to cast Take Your Meds on Levi but failed and Bete chain-activated, moved and hit Levi once giving him Slow (thankfully Mike didn't have a Crow as he would paralyse Levi).
I was so resigned (already) that I swung at Bete with Levi killing her and then shot at Nurse wounding her (4 wounds).
Kirai summoned Sheishin and shot at Trapper 3 times, which not only killed poor guy but also summoned Gaki and Sheishin. I was going to call the game right now but wanted to see what turn 4 would bring (just for the craic).
Shikome and Gaki moved and dropped scheme markers for Breakthrough.
Rusty killed Gaki.

Upkeep phase - Kirai: +1VP Strategy;
Score after turn 3: Levi 0 - Kirai 2

Turn 4

Kirai won initiative - Sheishin summoned, 2 shots at Necropunk - killed him with Sheishin and Gaki summoned - I called the game :D

Upkeep phase - Kirai: +1VP Strategy;, +3VP Breakthrough

Final score: Levi 0 - Kirai 7

Few comments after the game:

- I made so many mistakes during the game. But on the other hand few of my and Mike's flips ruined my day (especially when attacking The Hanged with Levi and when Ikiryo hit her with the Red Joker on negative damage flip). Either way I deserved this humiliating lose :D
- Levi with 2 Belles is scary thing... so scary thing that for the sake of my gaming community I will not use Pariah of Bone/Iron anymore :D

And the last thing: I hate, hate, hate Kirai!!! :D
As I think that Levi is broken amongst Outcast I think Kirai is broken within Resser faction.

Till the next time!

  1. Thanks for sharing. While it is true that your cards seem to have deserted you, the benefit of writing up this kind of post (which is excellent) is that you can revisit your errors. For me, the biggest mistake was not taking a marker in turn 2 with the Necropunk - after all, what is the Necropunk going to do if not score you points?

I was quite surprised reading back to see that you hadn't taken Murder Protege on Datsue Ba as she is a priority target and you really gunned for her early on anyway.

  2. As I said - this evening 'mistake' was my second name :D
I have activated Necropunk too late on Turn 2 and allow Mike to block the marker later in the turn.
As for Murder Protege - I was considering taking it however once done and declared I was expecting Mike to run her more conservatively, hiding behind LOS blockers and summoning Sheishins for Kirai.
